knowledge are given through the Spirit. The goal is the knowledge of God (possibly of Christ) and the result of that knowledge and the further level of Christian maturity to which “Paul” invites the “Ephesians” is the further knowledge that is implied when one knows God, namely, the hope, the riches, and the power of God extended into the lives of believers. All of these insights depend on the basis of Christian life, Baptism, to which the author refers in v. 18a, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened.
